Volunteer Opportunities at The Akshaya Patra Foundation

While supporting Akshaya Patra’s cooking operations sounds like fun, it isn’t an opportunity that adds much value to them; given that they already have machines doing a more efficient and hygienic job of the same. Infact, having volunteers help at the kitchen is quite stressful for their staff as they then need to ensure that the ISO standards of hygiene and cleanliness that the kitchen’s staff are familiar with, are being followed by the volunteers too. Further, their six-sigma processes ensure that food reaches over 1 lakh children on time every school day; any interference can in fact lead to delays in the same.

Having learnt from experience, the organisation thus prefers having volunteers help out with research/documentation, social media marketing, photography and the like. A few areas where volunteers may pitch in, depending on their availability, have been listed below. However, the team is open to exploring options outside of this. They believe that it is important to understand skill sets of a person first and basis that create tasks that would add most value to the organisation; and give a sense of satisfaction to the volunteer too.

If interested, please write in to them at infodesk@akshayapatra.org to take this forward.
