Once considered a school for mad children, this NGO is now the best school in its area for children with disabilities
“Vidhyalay mein photography aur videography karna sakht mana hai.”
“Vidhyalay mein phone silent mode mein rakhe.”
It is these two signs that greet you as you enter RMKM’s campus. The organization works for children and adults with physical/mental disabilities and this is just one of the ways they go out of their way to care and protect them.
It was a natural disaster that lead to the setting up of Rajasthan Mahila Kalyan Mandal Sanstha (RMKM). Back in 1975, a flash flood hit Ajmer. The city was submerged and as recourse, the district administrator had provided relief to the affected in a secondary school – the Topdara Senior Secondary High School; as it was built at a height according to British architecture, its upper floors were not affected by the waters.
With the basic motive of being a good citizen, RMKM’s founder, Mr. Sagarmal Kaushik decided to volunteer for the relief efforts. In his little spare time outside of work (he used to work with the Indian Railways), he helped mobilize relief material.
RMKM was honored on 15th of August 2004 by the District Administration for Excellent Work for the disabled, women and children by the Honr’ble Ministry Prof. Sawar Mal Jaat (Minister of Irrigation Govt. of Rajasthan)
On 26th January, 2007, RMKM received the “Best State-Level Organization” working in community development by the then Governor of Rajasthan, Mrs. Prathibha Patil
