GiveIndia is proud to be the official charity partner for Twestival Local 2011 - an annual event that encourages local groups of Twitter users to host events in aid of their favorite charities.

Twestival was born out of the idea that if cities were able to collaborate on an international scale, but work from a local level, it could have a spectacular impact. Since 2009, over 200 cities have participated by hosting offline events raising close to $1.2 million for 137 causes; most notably education and clean water.

This year, 5 Twestival cities – Bangalore, Cochin, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Pune – will complete to raise funds online for local charities for their choice. As partners, GiveIndia will be offering a matching grant (upto the limit mentioned below) to NGOs of the top-3 cities to raise funds online, in the following 2 categories:

Prizes
Funds Raised
Number of Unique Donors
First Prize
Rs. 50,000
Rs. 50,000
Second Prize
Rs. 30,000
Rs. 30.000
Third Prize
Rs. 20,000
Rs. 20,000

In addition, there will be additional prizes up for grabs too. The first of which was won by Hyderabad – a prize of Rs. 10,000 for being the first city to raise Rs. 10,000! Cities are now gearing up for the second prize on offer – Rs. 5,000 to the first city to raise funds from 50 unique donors.

So, donate, spread the word and everything else to get the maximum support for your favourite city/charity. May the most giving city win :-)!

Need a better motivation to make that donation?

Would you donate if you knew that your donation could help an NGO get additional funds? Or if you knew that your donation would have more of an impact than it otherwise does?

We're pretty sure your answer is a yes. Which is why you should wait no more in supporting one of the many NGOs participating in The India Tax Saving Challenge – an online fundraising events that rewards NGOs raising the most funds, with additional funds.

Over 350 people have already made donations of over Rs. 13 lacs, helping NGOs win over Rs. 5 lacs of additional funds. With the challenge still on and lots of additional funds yet to be won, there’s no better time to make a donation.

Don’t forget, you get tax benefits for your donation too!

Help an NGO get additional funds, increase the impact of your donation and get tax benefits too!

Convey my thanks to that unseen ‘Anna’

"Convey my thanks to that unseen  'Anna' "… are the words from Master Dinesh, a Muscular Dystrophy patient who has lost the ability to do things most people take for granted, like walking and sitting up.

Such is the condition of most patients of Muscular Dystrophy - a muscle weakening disease. It’s a genetic disorder and is mostly seen in male children who gradually lose the ability to move and become extremely dependent on others. The condition of these patients is heartrending, especially for those who hail from the poorer sections of society and don’t have access to guidance and treatment. Mental agony, depression, family’s despondence, and above all social exclusion from the community are some of the trauma patients with Muscular Dystrophy go through.

While there is NO CURE for Muscular Dystrophy yet, the process of failure of patients’ muscles can be delayed by timely treatment and care.

A donation by the unseen ‘Anna’ of Master Dinesh to Muscular Dystrophy Foundation India helped the NGO to buy a wheelchair for Dinesh; which has not only helped reduced his dependency on others but also has brought back a spirit to his life.

There is no better time to be a good ‘Anna’ (brother) or Akka (sister) than today. Because by providing a wheelchair or donating to the Muscular Dystrophy Foundation India through GiveIndia TODAY, your donation will have a double impact.  As an anonymous donor,  passionate about the cause of Muscular Dystrohy (MD), will be matching every donation made to MDF till March 23rd, 2011.

Spread the word and help patients with Muscular Dystropy live with dignity.

You heard us right. Simply by participating in a survey you can get Rs. 50 donated to charity and a chance to win an iPod too!

GiveIndia is participating in a study being conducted by Dr. Femida Handy and Mr. Micheal Shier at the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Social Policy and Practice; that seeks to survey people who recently donated online about their reasons for donating. For every survey completed, the researchers will donate Rs.50 (up to a total of 50,000 rupees) to a program/organization registered with GiveIndia. Also, by completing the survey you will have the chance to win one iPod being given away to one lucky participant.*

TAKE THE SURVEY

The survey is ANONYMOUS and all data collected will only be used in aggregate for research purposes. The reseachers are trying to understand peoples' reasons for donating through GiveIndia as well as their previous donation history. No identifying information is being collected. It should take about 10 minutes to complete.

*If you would like to be entered into that draw please provide your e-mail address at the end of the survey. Your e-mail address will only be used to notify you if you won.
