Here's wishing all our readers a very happy Women's Day!  We have not done a "People who inspire us" post in a really long time but thought we'd take this opportunity on Women's Day to tell you about an extraordinary woman -- Rohini Nilekani.  Read on.....

Rohini Nilekani is the wife of Infosys Technologies cofounder Nandan Nilekani.  This former journalist is now an active philanthropist, involved mainly with two causes - getting water to the rural poor, and elementary education.

She is the founder of Arghyam, a public charitable foundation that has been working in the water sector since 2005 whose mission is “Enough water, safe water ….. always and for all”.

Nilekani was also the Chairperson of the Akshara Foundation, which focuses on educating elementary students in Karnataka, for six years.

In the past few years, Nilekani has given over to US$40 MILLION to the causes she supports!  This includes a US$5 million pledge to Yale University to set up the Yale India Initiative, an India studies programme.

Rohini Nilekani has recently been named as one of the
48 Asian Heroes of Philanthropy by Forbes magazine.  Other Indians on that list include Anil Agarwal, Shiv Nadar and Sunil Mittal.
