We've told you about feedback reports.  Now we thought we'd feature a real feedback report in our blog from time to time so all of you know that what we claim is true -- that a small donation can make a big difference, that a small donation can help change a life.

This is the feedback a donor received from IDEA Foundation via GiveIndia for a Rs3000 donation to educate a very poor child for a year.

13 year old Tejal and her 9 year old sister Komal lost their father in 2004, who was working as an auto rickshaw driver as he was affected by a dreaded illness.  Their paternal relatives just disowned them and their mother Sandhya after the death of their father. Sandhya’s widowed mother came to their rescue and sheltered Sandhya and the tiny tots in her single room house. Since then the mother and the two children are staying with the granny in Shravandhara slum which is located in Kothrud in Pune.

Foundation for Initiatives in Development and Education for All ( IDEA) has chosen Shravandhara slum in 2006, as its’ project area when a baseline survey revealed that there are many school drop outs in this slum and majority of the people are working as rag pickers / construction workers / small vendors. IDEA is the only NGO working for the deprived women and children in the slum.

IDEA is helping Tejal’s family since 2006.The financial condition of the family is very miserable now as Tejal’s mother is unable to contribute towards the family income by stitching clothes at home as she is suffering from kidney stones and is under medication. The old grandmother is struggling to meet the medical expenses of her daughter and the educational and other needs of her granddaughters by sitting just in front of their house and selling match box, soap, toffees, and other small items.  Tejal and Komal are in Std 8 and 4 respectively and they are excellent in studies! Tejal got 78% in her last annual exam.

The donation amount will enable IDEA to help the family for the educational expenses of Tejal during the academic year 2008-09. Tejal also regularly attends the study centre run by IDEA in the slum.
